Introduction
A shocking example of administrative negligence has surfaced in Jhansi. Despite ongoing claims of Smart City development and water conservation campaigns, thousands of liters of clean drinking water have been flowing into drains for several days near Elite Square.
What makes the situation even more alarming is that the incident is taking place just 100 meters away from the municipal office, yet authorities remain unaware or inactive.
Broken Pipeline Causing Continuous Water Loss
Near the traffic park at Elite Square, a damaged pipeline has been leaking continuously, leading to massive water wastage.
Leakage ongoing for several days
Thousands of liters of potable water wasted daily
Water flowing directly into drains
Formation of a large pothole due to continuous leakage
Local residents say the situation has worsened over time, creating not just wastage but also safety concerns.
Issue Highlighted by Environmental Activist
The issue was brought to light by environmental and social activist Narendra Kushwaha.
While passing through the area on Monday, he noticed a strong flow of water coming out of a roadside pit. Upon inquiry, locals informed him that the leakage had been ongoing for days.
He stated:
“On one hand, the government is spending crores on water conservation campaigns, while on the other, such negligence is leading to massive wastage of precious water.”
