Jhansi: In a crackdown on illegal betting activities during the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Premnagar police arrested two individuals allegedly involved in operating an online betting racket. Authorities recovered ₹2.8 lakh in cash along with two mobile phones from their possession.
The action was carried out under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police B.B.G.T.S. Murthy, SP City Preeti Singh, and CO Sadar Ramveer Singh. The operation was led by Premnagar Station House Officer Tulsiram Pandey as part of an ongoing campaign against IPL-related gambling activities.
According to police sources, a tip-off was received about two individuals actively facilitating IPL betting. Acting swiftly on the information, the police team conducted a raid and successfully apprehended the suspects after surrounding the location.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Rahul Gautam, a resident of Nainagarh Nagara under Premnagar police station limits, and Jaipal Rajput, a resident of Athondna village under Raksa police station area.
During the investigation, police found that both accused were using mobile phones to access online betting platforms where IPL matches were being wagered on through digital transactions. Authorities also revealed that approximately ₹44.66 lakh worth of betting chips/coins were present in their online wallets, indicating the scale of the operation.
