Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Sheetal Verma, Director of the Directorate of Census Operations, Uttar Pradesh, shared important updates regarding the preparations and procedures for Census 2027 during a press conference held in Lucknow.
Addressing the media, Verma assured citizens that all personal information collected during the census process would remain completely confidential. She emphasized that strict measures have been put in place to protect the privacy of individuals participating in the nationwide population survey.
According to officials, an optional self-enumeration process will be conducted across Uttar Pradesh between May 7 and May 21. However, Verma clarified that census enumerators will still visit every household to ensure accurate data collection and complete coverage.
To successfully carry out the large-scale exercise in the state, the government has deployed more than 5.25 lakh personnel, including master trainers, field trainers, supervisors, and enumerators. These teams will oversee data collection and ensure that the census process is conducted smoothly across urban and rural regions.
Verma also announced the launch of a dedicated toll-free helpline number 1855 to assist citizens with queries and provide information related to Census 2027.
Highlighting the importance of the exercise, she said that the data collected during the census would play a crucial role in shaping future development policies and welfare schemes. The information gathered is expected to help the government improve planning in areas such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, employment, and public services.
Officials described Census 2027 as a major administrative exercise aimed at gathering accurate demographic and socio-economic data to support long-term policy decisions across Uttar Pradesh.
